Originally started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and now manufactured in China, Bachmann Model Trains is the largest supplier of model trains in the world. Although they did not start manufacturing cars, locomotives, tracks and other miniature railroad equipment until 1968, this company entered the world of model railroading shortly after the Second World War with a series of Kits called Plasticville, USA.
These kits consist of cooling stations, water towers, dairy barns, Cape Cod homes, school houses, railroad sheds, police stations and in even drive in restaurants. From their inception they were immediately a success, snapped up by model train collectors to add a whole new dimension to their miniature railroads allowing them to construct cities, farms and other types of residential areas they will pass through with model trains.
Added to the Plasticville, is the companies Scenescape kits which consists of trees, animals and people. Not only can you see people as passengers and railroad workers, but as store clerks and even old west figurines if your model train railroad happens to have an old west theme.
The villages you create for your model train can also have cats climbing in and out of garbage can’s and dogs gathering around the fire hydrant. These Bachmann kits can certainly make any model railroad come alive.
However, this company did not just stop at these kits that enriched the railroads of the model train enthusiasts. They went on to join the other companies at making the rolling stock, locomotives and tracks under their own name. Bachmann Model Trains railroads can be found in N, HO and O scales.

Bachmann Model Trains also produces the larger G scale designed for outside model train railroading called the Big Hauler. Sets in the G scale include such names as the Tweetsie, Pennsylvanian and The Night Before Christmas. Of course, this company offers figurines to match their G scale line.
Since moving to China, the company has gone from selling primarily in the United States to competing in the world market. Entry level sets for the beginning model train railroad collector makes up the largest percentage of their sales. These entry level sets known for their high quality at an extremely competitive price.
These starter kits include The Pacific Flyer, Sante Fe Flyer and Overland to name just a few. One of the most popular kits for children is the Thomas the Tank Engine kit that comes complete with moveable eyes and the Annie and Clarabell style coaches.
